On Tuesday, Republican State Rep. Kymberly Pine officially filed her paperwork to become a candidate, according to a report from the Office of Elections. Mel Kahele told reporters he’d be at Honolulu Hale today (Wednesday) to officially announce his candidacy as well.
Incumbent Tom Berg and former lawmaker Alex Santiago were already in since February and April, respectively. Three others have pulled papers but had not filed them as of yesterday.
Other campaign filing news:
- Ann Kobayashi officially filed for re-election in District 5 Tuesday. No challengers have yet to pull papers.
- Joey Manahan and Martin Han both filed their paperwork Tuesday and will face off in District 7. Romy Cachola, who’s term-limited, filed his paperwork Tuesday to run for Manahan’s District 30 seat in the Hawaii House of Representatives.
- Vaiuli Sua filed his paperwork Tuesday for District 9, joining Inam Rahman in the race. Ron Menor has said he’ll run but had yet to file as of this writing.
- Mayor Peter Carlisle had yet to pull or file papers Tuesday with one week left before the filing deadline. Ben Cayetano remains the lone official candidate for the race.
