Hawaii Education Board members heard a report today from the DOE that says the student transportation shortfall will likely be “only” $16 million.

The department expects to pick up $1 million from the carryover for the bus fare revolving fund, Asst. Supt. Randy Moore told the board.

He gave a six-slide presentation that spoke in mostly broad term about how to cover the gap.

Moore said he is optimistic that specific recommendations will be ready for the board by its next meeting.

Ed Board Chair Don Horner said he believes they will find a solution that does not impact elementary school students.
