This could all be for naught should a U.S. District Court rule against the state’s reapportionment plan, but here’s a list of some familiar names from the May 17 (Thursday) filing with the State Elections Office.

Pulling papers or filing for re-election are state Sens. Suzanne Chun Oakland, Donovan Dela Cruz and Clayton Hee, and state Reps. Pono Chong, Joe Souki and George Fontaine.

Chong could face Democrat Jessica Wooley in the primary; the winner could face former GOP Rep. Colleen Meyer in the general … unless Meyer chooses to run for Senate against Hee.

Meantime, Beth Fukumoto, a former chair of the Hawaii Republican Party, could face Democrat Marilyn Lee for a Mililani seat. Republican Fred Hemmings and Democrat Laura Thielen are for sure running for a Windward Oahu seat, but incumbent Pohai Ryan has yet to pull papers.

And Kanohowailuku Helm, nephew of the late George Helm, is running as a nonpartisan for the Maui-Molokai-Lanai seat held by Democrat Sen. Kalani English, who has not formally filed to run for ree-election.
