Major players in Hawaii’s energy sector are pouring into the state Capitol’s executive offices in anticipation of Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s signing of two major energy bills.

The undersea cable bill, which has sparked controversy on the islands of Lanai and Molokai, will be signed.

Abercrombie will also sign a bill that creates a reliability administrator at the PUC, who will oversee the interconnection of renewable energy projects onto the electric grid.

In attendance are Mark Glick, the state’s energy administrator, Josh Strickler, from the PUC and representatives from Biological Capital and Pattern Energy, who are interested in developing the Molokai wind farm as well as undersea cables. Sen. Mike Gabbard, Rep. Denny Coffman and PUC Commissioner Mike Champley are also here.
