Dante Carpenter, chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii, on Tuesday (June 5) informed the state Office of Elections that Laura Thielen “has not met the eligibility requirements for Democratic candidates for elective office.”

That information comes from a June 6 (Wednesday) letter from Chief Election Officer Scott Nago

Nago pointed out in his letter that Thielen’s nomination papers include certification that she is a member of the Democratic Party, and that she met the requirements to run for office according to state law.

If Carpenter believes Thielen did not comply with “internal party eligibility requirements,” however, Nago advised that Carpenter take it up with the Circuit Court.

Civil Beat left a message with Carpenter to find out whether legal action was eminent.
