Chuck Freedman, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Hawaii, stepped down last week because he disagreed with the party’s efforts to keep Laura Thielen from running as a Democrat.

Freedman now will devote his attention to volunteering for Kirk Caldwell‘s bid for Honolulu mayor.

Two years ago, Freedman helped Brian Schatz get elected lieutenant governor. He is a former director of communications for Gov. John Waihee.
