The money will be used to help expand the lab’s biotech incubator at Keahole Point. The Commerce Department estimates the money will help create 985 jobs as well as spur private investment.
“The grant announced today will help Hawaii businesses develop their products and bring them to market, creating new jobs and spurring additional investment,” Bryson said in a statement.
Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye praised the move, saying it will help reduce Hawaii’s dependence on imported oil.
