None of Hawaii’s leading U.S. Senate candidates is attending the Republican or Democratic National Conventions late this summer. Carolyn Tanaka, a staffer on Rep. Mazie Hirono’s campaign, emailed DC808 on Friday with this comment:

“Mazie will not be attending the convention, and she fully supports the President. If she is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, Mazie believes the most important thing she can do to help the President is work tirelessly to win this seat, given that she’s the only Hawaii Senate candidate who supports President Obama’s priorities like the American Jobs Act.”

Republican Linda Lingle and Democrat Ed Case told DC808 earlier this week that they would be in Hawaii at the time of their respective parties’ conventions.
