Gary Hooser may be coming home.
He filed Monday to run for Kauai County Council, nearly one decade after leaving his seat at the seven-member table to run for state Senate.
Before assuming these responsibilities, Hooser spent seven years as the sole state senator representing Kauai and Niihau. He was the majority leader before stepping down to run for lieutenant governor in 2010.
Which takes us back in his political career to his days on the Kauai County Council, where he served from 1998 to 2002.
The latest candidate report at the Hawaii Elections Office shows only seven people have filed to run in the at-large council race. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
It’s likely some have simply waited till the last minute to file, including, presumably, incumbent Tim Bynum.
