It looks like there’s a little more wiggle room under Honolulu’s sewer connection moratorium from Halawa to Pearl City than previously believed.

The city’s Department of Environmental Services announced on April 20 it was imposing a moratorium to deal with capacity issues related to force mains at a couple of pump stations.

Essentially, the moratorium meant the city was limiting development so as not to overflow the sewer system. But now officials say they’re willing to look at new connections on a “case-by-case” basis.
