Michael Levine reports for Inside Honolulu:
Honolulu mayoral hopeful Ben Cayetano raised almost $900,000 in the six-month period that ended June 30, he told reporters at a press conference today.
That’s far more than Mayor Peter Carlisle raised in the same six months. Cayetano, who’s said previously he expected to be outspent at a 20-to-1 ratio, said he needs the money to counter the negative ads by third-party groups like the Pacific Resource Partnership.
Cayetano said the official report, due this week, would show a haul of $890,000 or $900,000, including about $50,000 in in-kind (non-monetary) donations.
On Monday, I reported that Carlisle raised about $198,000 in the six-month period. Kirk Caldwell has yet to file. All state and county candidates have to file before midnight Thursday night.
