Press release:

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a new poll in the Hawaii Senate race today showing Mazie Hirono up 19 points over Linda Lingle in the General Election, 52-33. Hirono has increased her lead over the last month by four points. It comes on the heels of a new Honolulu Star Advertiser poll showing the same margin, with Hirono at 58 and Lingle at 39. …

“With less than four months to Election Day, Mazie Hirono continues to hold a commanding lead over Linda Lingle, with the former Governor failing to sway the Democrats she needs to win this overwhelmingly ‘blue’ state,” The Mellman Group writes in the DSCC’s polling memo. “Lingle’s weakness is a function of her relative unpopularity and the Democratic orientation of the state. That combination puts huge obstacles in Lingle’s path, while the better-liked Hirono is further aided by the state’s partisan landscape.”

The Mellman Group poll of 800 likely voters was conducted from July 18-22.
