State Rep. John Mizuno has scheduled a press conference Tuesday morning (July 24) at Kakaako Waterfront Park to address “concerns with policy and administration of the Next Step Shelter continue to cause great concern to the shelter’s residents, who feel like they have no voice or rights at the shelter.”
Press release quote from Mizuno, House Human Services chair:
I am angered and inspired by what I am hearing from current and former residents of the Next Step Shelter. I am angered by the allegations of abuse of power and possible civil rights violations and inspired to end such alleged abuses. I am hopeful that after this press conference we will secure sound policy at this transitional homeless shelter for our residents.
