The Kana’iolowalu Launch is set for Friday morning (July 21) at a ceremony at Washington Place.

Capitol Watch reports:

Former governor John D. Waihee, commission chair, will be joined by fellow commissioners and Gov. Neil Abercrombie at the ceremony.

The Roll Commission will be registry of individuals who will be eligible to participate in the formation of a sovereign government.

Press release:

A parallel petition effort will be open to all individuals, Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians, as a declaration of support for the reunification of Native Hawaiians and recognition of Native Hawaiians un-relinquished sovereignty.

Act 195, Session Laws of Hawaii 2011, recognizes Native Hawaiians as the indigenous people of Hawaii that exercised sovereignty as a people.

It also created the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission, members who would be appointed by the Governor from nominations made by Native Hawaiian organizations.
