Our Educationblog reports:

Although late in the game, Rep. Mark Takai is continuing his push to get the state to scrap its plan to cut 103 bus routes.

He sent a letter to Gov. Abercrombie over the weekend asking him to invoke emergency powers to ensure 2,380 aren’t left scrambling to find another ride to school when class resumes in a few weeks.

Last month, the Ed Board voted to use $11.7 million in federal money and other funds to help cover a $17 million shortfalls.

The remaining $5.5 million in savings is to come from cutting bus routes around the state. The Ed Dept. finalized a list of routes to be cut Saturday.

Here’s the news out of Takai’s office. The governor’s office has yet to respond.
