For Mazie Hirono, this one surely stings.

Inside Honolulu reports:

Former Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano is giving money to a former colleague’s rival in the race for U.S. Senate.

Cayetano donated $500 to Ed Case’s campaign on July 11, according to a recent Federal Elections Commission campaign finance report.

While this probably isn’t enough to sway the vote, it’s fascinating considering Case’s primary opponent is U.S. Congresswoman Mazie Hirono.

She was Cayetano’s Lt. governor for eight years, while he led the state from 1994 to 2002.

Cayetano is now in a heated battle for Honolulu mayor. He’s running against incumbent Mayor Peter Carlisle and former Managing Director Kirk Caldwell.
