Well, this is an interesting tactic.

Republican Matt DiGeronimo, one of the two candidates vying for the GOP nomination for the 2nd Congressional District, says he’s made a conscious decision to not put signs up and is asking his competitors to kindly dispose of their campaign materials.

“While I have not had the name recognition or media attention given to the Democratic primary candidates, I have made the conscious decision that my primary campaign be focused on one-on-one contact with the voters, rather than overwhelm them with campaign clutter that will most likely end up in Hawaii’s landfills,” he said in the release. “I have made the conscious decision to place as few signs as necessary even though I have been criticized for not running a traditional campaign.”

“I urge all primary candidates to be diligent after this coming Saturday’s election, and assure any campaign clutter is appropriately disposed of. What little I may have contributed will most certainly be taken care of with respect to the environment.”

Democrats Tulsi Gabbard and Mufi Hannemann have far more signs than either DiGeronimo or his primary opponent, Kawika Crowley. Both Gabbard and Hannemann would clear favorites to beat DiGeronimo or Crowley in November. DiGeronimo has yet to file any fundraising reports with the Federal Election Commission.

No immediate response yet from Gabbard or Hannemann on whether they plan to remove their signs before the general election.
