All national and Hawaii flags at state offices and agencies as well as the Hawaii National Guard are to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday (Aug.) 31, 2012, in memory of astronaut Neil Armstrong, as directed by President Barack Obama.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie has also ordered flags to be lowered sunrise to sunset on Saturday (Sept. 1) “as a mark of respect” for the memory of former State Legislator Mary Jane McMurdo.

McMurdo served in the state Senate from 1984 to 1994 and state House of Representatives from 1994 to 1996.
