Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation Board of Directors meeting just started.

Jim Anthony, of the Sierra Club Hawaii Chapter, is speaking now in support of the $5.26 billion project. He also said the Oahu chapter plans to publicly support rail.

“Rail is not dead,” Anthony said during an impassioned speech. “It’s far from dead.”

He added that continuing with rail is the HART board’s “public trust responsibility.”

Anthony was recently appointed to the city and county of Honolulu’s Transportation Commission.

The board will get an update on last week’s Hawaii Supreme Court ruling on the project during an executive session. Afterwards there’s expected to be a public statement, probably from HART Executive Director Dan Grabauskas.

I’ll keep you posted.
