All three Hawaii State Public Library System summer reading programs set records again this year for overall participation and total number of books read.

There were 29,011 readers this year, up from 20,589 in 2009. Readers of all ages read more than 300,000 books during the five-week programs.

The state librarian on Tuesday made the report, which also included updates on library Internet sessions hitting all-time highs, email notices saving the system money, and upcoming seminars for investors and small businesses.
