Living in Hawaii this election season, it’s easy to feel bombarded by campaign solicitations for Hawaii’s senatorial race between Rep. Mazie Hirono and former governor Linda Lingle.

But we’re not the only ones.

Chuck Schumer, a Democratic senator from New York, sent an email to his supporters in New York today asking them to donate to Hirono‘s campaign for U.S. Senate.

With the subject line, “Your own TV network,” the email said that Lingle is taking the campaign to a “ridiculous new level” by buying her own TV channel and that “grassroots contributions” are needed.

“We have to help Mazie counter her opponent’s round-the-clock attacks to make sure we hold this seat in Democratic hands,” the email said.  “If we lose a must-win seat like this in Hawaii, our chances of holding our Senate majority get much slimmer.”

Civil Beat reported in July that Hirono has received a significant amount of financial support from the U.S. mainland, including over $230,000 from Act Blue, an online clearinghouse for Democrats; over $85,000 from EMILY’s List, an organization that supports pro-choice Democratic female candidates; and over $150,000 from other PACs.

As of their July campaign spending filings, Hirono had raked in $3.4 million in total campaign contributions, trailing behind Lingle’s $4.2 million.
