Breaking news from our Capitol Watch blog:

Jim Boersema, communications director for Gov. Neil Abercrombie, will leave his position at the end of this month.

Boersema told Civil Beat Thursday (Sept. 20) that he believed he had been successful in helping the governor turn around an administration that had a tough first year.

Boersema is the second communications director to serve Abercrombie, who has been in office for less than two years.

The obvious candidate to replace Boersema is Donalyn Dela Cruz, currently the deputy director of communications and press secretary.

More to come.
