U.S. Reps. Mazie Hirono and Colleen Hanabusa and congressional candidate Tulsi Gabbard held a press conference Friday (Sept. 28) to remember the legacy of Patsy T. Mink, who died 10 years ago this day.

Mink was hospitalized before the 2002 primary, which she won handily, and was posthumouslyre-elected that November. A special election later sent Ed Case to D.C. to represent the 2nd District seat that U.S. Senate candidate Hirono now occupies and that Gabbard is seeking to win.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act, aka Title IX, the federal law that protects students from gender discrimination in federally supported education programs and activities.
