Kawika Crowley, the Republican running for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District seat, scheduled a press conference for Monday (Sept. 24), but no reporters showed up.

That’s because local media outlets were covering the Sen. Donna Mercado Kim hearing on UH Athletics, which was scheduled for the same time at the state Capitol.

“To set up a Press Conference when the UH hearing was going on and other more important critical events today was not smart,” Crowley said in a press release later that day. “I should have been more aware of such matters. Please understand, this whole thing of being a congressional candidate headed into the General is all new to me. And being basically a one-man show I’ll be making some mistakes like this…please be patient with me.

The press conference, by the way, was to address Democrat Tulsi Gabbard‘s ignoring Crowley’s requests for a television debate.
