Here’s a follow-up to an Inside Honolulu blog post from July that involved three baby warthogs at the Honolulu Zoo.

The zoo asked the community to help name the piglets through a contest that involved patrons filling out applications at the snack bar.

We here at Civil Beat suggested the three newbies be named Peter, Kirk and Ben in honor of Honolulu’s three mayoral candidates who were heading into the Aug. 11 primary.

Just in case you’ve been out of the loop, the candidates’ full names are: Peter Carlisle, the current mayor, Kirk Caldwell, the city’s former managing director, Ben Cayetano, Hawaii’s former governor.

Carlisle did not make the Nov. 6 run-off.

Unfortunately, our suggestion didn’t get any traction. We also didn’t follow contest rules. No one actually filled out an application. Can’t win if you don’t play, I guess.
