The first of a two-part conversation with former Hawaii Gov. George Ariyoshi airs Tuesday evening (Sept. 18) on “Long Story Short with Leslie Wilcox.”

In the episode Journey to Washington Place, Ariyoshi recalls being a young lawyer,  without aspirations of holding elective office, until he met future governor John Burns, who encouraged him to run for the territorial legislature. Ariyoshi won a seat in the “Democratic Revolution” of 1954.

The conversation continues in another episode, Shaping the Future. In this segment, Ariyoshi talks about the political lessons he learned under Burns’ tutelage and how they helped him build consensus and bridge differences.
