Just saw an ad in which Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle says he’s voting for Kirk Caldwell in the Nov. 6 election.

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering Carlisle and Caldwell are pro-rail candidates and former Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano wants to sink the $5.26 billion project.

Should be noted that the ad was paid for by Workers for a Better Hawaii, a union-backed independent expenditure committee. 

An interesting coincidence comes from a recent Hawaii Reporter story about push polls by the Pacific Resource Partnership.

According to that article, one of the questions that was asked is whether voters would be more likely to support Caldwell should Carlisle endorse him.

Carlisle, however, had already thrown his support behind Caldwell. He did it after learning he wouldn’t move beyond the Aug. 11 primary.
