Apple’s new iPads — the fourth generation of the current version and the mini that debuted this week — have tech guys touting the company’s continued dominance in the education market.

Teachers seem to prefer the new technology and school districts are buying in bulk.

Some Hawaii classrooms already have laptops or iPads for each student. Soon, that could be the case for the vast majority.

Hawaii’s proposed budget for the next biennium, which the Ed Board approved last week, calls for spending more than $14 million next fiscal year and about $22 million the following year to buy laptops and tablets for students.

Andrew Nusca, editor of ZDNet and SmartPlanet, says the lower entry-level price point may help school districts wring more from their technology budgets than expected.
