For it, against it, or not so sure — this week is your chance to share your thoughts on Aina Koa Pono’s proposed biofuel plant for the Big Island

The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission is holding public meetings this week on the Big Island and Oahu:

  •  Monday, 6 p.m., Hilo High School Cafeteria, 556 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo
  •  Tuesday, 6 p.m., Kealakehe High School Cafeteria, 74-5000 Puohulihuli St., Kailua-Kona
  •  Thursday, 6 p.m., Farrington High School Cafeteria, 1564 N. King St., Honolulu
The meetings will cover HELCO’s proposed rate hike for Big Island residents, as well as the Aina Koa Pono contract. The contract includes a surcharge on the biofuel for Oahu and Big Island residents because the cost of the fuel is higher than the projected cost of oil.
