The Howard Hughes Corporation on Wednesday (Oct. 10) announced plans to create an urban master planned community in Kakaako called Ward Village.

A press release describes the project as “a vibrant neighborhood offering unique retail experiences, exceptional residences and affordable housing set among dynamic public open spaces and pedestrian-friendly streets.”

A development agreement with the Hawaii Community Development Authority allows Hughes up to 9.3 million total square feet of mixed-use development, including more than 4,000 residential units and over 1 million square feet of retail and other commercial space.
