Hawaii Sen. Daniel Inouye was taken to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington, D.C. this morning (Thursday, Nov. 15) where he received a few stitches to a cut on the head.

He apparently fell at his apartment, according to spokesman Peter Boylan, who is quoted in this Washington Post story.

The 88-year-old senator was expected to be fine, his staff said.

According to this report in The Hill, Inouye “is the second oldest senator in the chamber, behind only Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.).”

UPDATE: Boylan said around 9:30 a.m. HST that the senator has been released from the hospital and was heading to his Maryland apartment.
