Beachgoers were surprised on Saturday to find about six dozen metal contraptions jetting out of the sand at Bellows Beach.

Onlookers speculated that perhaps it was part of a sand restoration project, or maybe related to Christmas festivities.

But a woman at a nearby tent confirmed that she had put up the steel cage-like structures Friday afternoon. It’s her 24-hour art installation, called Veritas.

Asked if she needed a permit, she said no, she was going “guerilla style.”
