Politico has a new report on the health of Sen. Dan Inouye, saying that his condition has worsened. Excerpts:

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye’s medical condition has worsened and the 88-year-old World War II veteran appears to be fighting both emphysema and complications owed to lung surgery in the 1960’s that reduced his capacity to take in oxygen. …

In the past year he has been more short-winded and found to be suffering from emphysema. The use of portable oxygen had helped but he suffered a fall in November and then a fainting spell this month. That led him to be hospitalized so that doctors could better observe him and regulate his oxygen intake. …
