Attorneys from both sides of the federal rail lawsuit continue to argue the nuances of environmental policy.

In the center of the argument is whether the city and county of Honolulu adequately studied a tunnel under Beretania Street.

But one of the more surprising statements, comes from Robert Thornton who represents Honolulu.

Thornton just told the judge that if former Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano and the other plaintiffs get what they want it would cost millions more in delays and put thousands of people out of work.

He also said the plaintiffs could “jeopardize” the $1.55 billion in federal funds that are expected to come to the city for the project.
