Bad news for people who rely on monthly child support checks.

The state Child Support Enforcement Agency says a fire in an airport-area viaduct last night destroyed about 200 feet of critical communication lines. That means access to the mainframe computers the agency needs has been disrupted. And that means the agency can’t post any payments that are coming in.

The lines need to be fixed before the agency can process any more payments. And no one knows how long that will take. State officials said to expect a “short delay.”
