UPW Unit 10 is reportedly set to wrap up pending arbitration with the state of Hawaii and is expected to win a 3.2 percent percent pay hike.

State budget chief Kalbert Young says the administration will have to ask lawmakers for an emergency appropriation of as much as $8 million as a result. Unit 10 covers state corrections officers, health and institutional workers and Honolulu County paramedics.

KHON reports:

While most other collective bargaining units settled on negotiated contracts that included wage and benefit concessions in or just after the recession, the first that will come out of arbitration is UPW Unit 10.

In the arbitration award, they will hold on to their base pay for the past two years of the disputed contract, plus get a 3.2 percent pay hike covering this month through June 30.

A draft decision has already been circulated, and the final is expected to be received by the parties on Thursday. UPW is holding an Oahu membership meeting Thursday evening.
