Move aside Chihuahuas! The Labrador Retriever has ousted the little dog as Honolulu’s most popular dog breed, according to the American Kennel Club.
Big dogs in general have become more popular here, compared to smaller breeds.
“Honolulu gave a welcoming Aloha to large breeds in 2012,” AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson said in a statement. “The Labrador Retriever was the most popular breed and the Golden Retriever made a big jump from twelfth to second. The smaller breeds such as the Chihuahua, Pomeranian and Yorkshire Terrier dropped down on the list.”
