The state Aloha Tower Development Corporation (ATDC) on Monday recognized Hawaii Pacific University as the owner and manager of Aloha Tower Marketplace.

The landmark decision came after weeks of tense deliberations over who should redevelop the marketplace.

It gives HPU the O.K. to turn the property into a “mixed-use” property with student housing, retail shops and restaurants and community gathering places, including a performance venue.

HPU will now start assessing financing options in order to start demolition and renovation later this year, according to a press release.
