Uh-oh. The local newspaper has apparently incurred the wrath of the family of Manti Te’O, the Punahou grad who’s now a college football superstar, for running a picture of him missing a tackle.
Te’O’s Official Fan Club Facebook fan page now features a request from the Notre Dame star linebacker’s father to unsubscribe from the paper because of it. Brian Te’O says that is no way to treat the young athlete or his family who have been generous in cooperating with the paper and providing access to him. “So, from this point forward, Star Advertiser you have been officially black listed,” he writes. Click here to see the page, the picture that started it all, the post and the more than 4,000 likes it has gotten since being posted Friday.
So, sports fans, what do you think? Should the paper be punished for running a game photo that put Manti in a bad light? Or is that all part of covering the game however it plays out?
MONDAY MORNING UPDATE: Looks like the fan page has removed the post about the Star-Advertiser. But you can still see it here in a story Deadspin posted about it over the weekend. This post includes a screenshot of the original post.
