Today, President Barack Obama urged the public to support bipartisan efforts at immigration reform.

Part of the reform alludes to DREAMers — the undocumented students who, under the DREAM Act, would have the opportunity to earn US citizenship if they pursue higher education.

DREAM legislation has been introduced into Congress numerous times in recent years but has never been passed into law. This year’s legislative package will likely signal “a reversal of fortune” for the DREAM Act, according to Inside Higher Ed.

An estimated 65,000 undocumented students graduate from US high schools each year, according to CollegeBoard.
