House Bill 743, which has a hearing Wednesday (Feb. 20) in House Finance, would do this:
Permits public employees limited paid leave for academic calendared activities. Increases the hours of paid leave for individual education-related activities. Increases the number of paid leaves for education-related activities permitted per calendar year.
HB 743 was introduced by Rep. Takahashi Ohno, and 13 other reps indicated their support.
HGEA and UPW have testified in support of the bill, but the state Department of Human Resources Development opposes it because of the potential impact on state operations and finances.
