A bill to shine a light on the biggest campaign donors who hide in the dark Super PAC world cleared the Finance Committee today and is headed to a vote before the full House.
House Bill 1147 requires noncandidate committees to identify top contributors in campaign ads. It also improves the disclosure of corporations that donate to political candidates and makes other changes in Hawaii’s campaign finance laws to boost transparency.
The measure, introduced by Rep. Chris Lee and six others, has the support of the Attorney General’s office, Campaign Spending Commission and a slew of good-government groups who want to combat the Citizens United decision.
