Two Senate committees on Monday passed a bill to give the Department of Education more control over contracting with companies to provide student transportation services.
In light of a recent audit, consultant’s study and media reports showing skyrocketing school bus contracts coinciding with the lack of bidding, the DOE put forward a bill to give it more flexibility with contracts. DOE officials say it should stimulate competition among bus companies.
