Bill: Truth In Government Accounting

Senate Bill 795, sponsored by Sen. Sam Slom with the support of Sens. David Ige and Glenn Wakai, states this:

The purpose of this Act is to develop a truth in accounting process for preparation and reporting of the State budget, which requires that the State government fulfill its responsibility to the public to transparently and timely report upon the actual financial status of the State.

According to the bill, which has a hearing in Ways and Means Thursday (Feb. 28), the Legislature would establish an investigative unit in the Office of the Auditor and appropriate funds.
