The state planning director railed against a bill that would create an Urban Growth Commission, a PLDC-type agency with the power to supercede county zoning laws.

Jesse Souki told House lawmakers Friday morning that there are “fatal flaws” in House Bill 567.

“It creates a nightmare for developers by creating another layer of regulation,” he said. “It’s not streamlining the process.”

The House Economic Development Committee decided to kill the bill, noting a pile of testimony against it and that a Senate version is still alive. 

Senate Bill 571 cleared two committees Thursday. It’s headed to Ways and Means next.
