Senators and representatives on the two education committees today approved a proposal to amend the Hawaii constitution so that the state can pump public funds into private preschool providers.

According to the Attorney General’s office, the constitutional amendment is necessary in order to allow the state to launch its proposed early education program. The program would provide a publicly funded preschool for all of the state’s 4-year-olds.
