The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an 8.0 magnitude earthquake in the Santa Cruz Islands, north east of Australia. The alert was issued about 3:40 p.m. Hawaii time.
There is no tsunami warning for Hawaii.
There is, however, a tsunami warning in effect for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua, New Guinea, Fiji and others in that vicinity.
A tsunami watch is in effect for the Marshall Islands, Samoa, New Zealand, Guam, the Northern Marianas among others.
