Senate WAM Approves Minimum Wage Hike

Senate Bill 311, which increases Hawaii’s minimum wage to $9.25 an hour, passed a key committee Wednesday (Feb. 27).

Ways and Means approved an amended version of the bill, with only GOP Sen. Sam “Smart Business Hawaii” Slom voting no. 

The Associated Press reported, “The committee approved and sent to the full Senate a proposal to increase the state minimum wage despite strong opposition from the state’s business community. Proponents say an increase is necessary to help people keep up with the rising cost of living.
