Hawaii teachers will receive pay raises and better healthcare benefits under a new two-year contract that the union and state tentatively agreed to this weekend.

The union’s 13,500 members still have to ratify the deal.

The settlement includes the restoration of the 5 percent pay cut and reduced health care premium costs that the state imposed two years ago.

Teachers will get 3.2 percent raises each of the next two years under the new contract if it’s approved.

Check out Civil Beat later for more details after this evening’s press conference with the governor and education officials.
