Hawaii schools — the bulk of them public — took 17 awards earlier this month at the 10th Annual Student Television Network Convention in Los Angeles, Calif.

Waianae High School took the lead, winning five awards.

The convention hosted nearly 2,500 students from 153 middle and high schools across the country. Fifteen local schools attended the four-day convention, making Hawaii the third-largest contingent at the event.

STN held contests for video production in 27 categories. Here’s how the state’s public schools placed in the competition, according to a Hawaii Department of Education press release:

1st Place – Convention Recap

1st Place – STN Excellence Award for Monthly Broadcast

2nd Place – Laptop Journalist

3rd Place – Short Story
